JEDDAH, 9 April 2005 — The labor office in Taif has introduced a new measure to ensure prompt payment of contract workers’ salaries by private companies. It has asked companies to deposit SR300,000 as guarantee for the payment of salaries and fines.
Hamid Saleem, director of the Labor Office in Taif, said the measure was taken after reports that many companies and employers failed to pay salaries of their workers as per contracts.
He said it was difficult to find out fake companies which surface at time of labor disputes. “We learned about fake companies only after receiving complaints from workers,” Al-Madinah newspaper quoted the official as saying.
