MADINAH, 19 April 2005 — The public relations office at the Saudi Basketball Federation saved the Libyan basketball team captain during the match against Chad. The player arrived at the basketball hall only to realize he forgot his shirt at the hotel. With 30 minutes before game time, the player, assisted by the employee at SBF PR office, had to rush back to the hotel, a distance of 15 kilometers from the basketball hall. Libya lost the match against Chad 85-75, but that is antoher story.
Iranian Giant Cager Center of Attention
MADINAH, 19 April 2005 — The Iranian giant basketball player, Hameed Vatch, 18 and the tallest player in the basketball competition was the center of attention. Hameed was unique in the competition and was no match to other players. Many basketball fans posed next to him for souvenir photos. The very accommodating 2.23-meter giant was only too happy to grant the numerous requests for snaps.
Al-Mahroos Happy for Star Achievement
MADINAH, 19 April 2005 — Saudi Ramzi Al-Mahroos, winner of 94 kg gold medal in weightlifting, was happy for the star achievement. He said that the competition was very difficult against Iraqi champion Muhammad Jasim, especially since it was the first experience for him in this weight. He said: “Achieving the gold medal is my dream and thank God it came through. I have to thank all people that supported me and helped me to get the gold medal.” He said that the gold medal will motivate him to win more championships in future international competitions.
