Show Highlighting Muslim Scientists Begins Tomorrow

RIYADH, 6 May 2005 — “When Science Spoke Arabic” exhibition will take place at the Riyadh’s Municipality tent on Al-Siteen Road. It will start tomorrow and continue till May 20.

Prince Sultan ibn Salman, secretary-general of the Supreme Commission for Tourism, chairman of the executive committee in the Prince Salman Science Oasis and president of Al-Turath Organization will sponsor the event.

Riyadh Philanthropic Society for Sciences along with Al-Turath and Embassy of France will organize the exhibition.

The exhibition portrays the history of science and its evolution and development. The exhibition will also demonstrate what Arabs and Muslims offered in various fields of science.

Director of Al-Turath Organization, Dr. Zaher Othman, explained that the exhibition is an opportunity to recall the most important scientific achievements accomplished by Muslim scientists in the fields of observation, measurement, mathematics, experiments, medical treatments, architecture.

Scientists’ achievements will be displayed through models illustrating their work.

Dr. Zaher added that the exhibition was launched from Paris and has been organized in several Arab countries. The scientific advances on show were made between the 8th and 15th century. The scientists traveled the world from Baghdad to Samarqand, from Grenada to Cairo and from Damascus to India and other nations. The Arabic language was their common language. In order to highlight the role of these scientists, the science center in France organized “When Science Spoke Arabic” expedition. It demonstrated some of the Arab scientists’ contribution to knowledge.

Al-Turath Organization is a non-profitable national organization. It was founded by Prince Sultan ibn Salman.
