RIYADH, 6 May 2005 — A major international conference on remote sensing and its applications will be inaugurated here tomorrow by Riyadh Governor Prince Salman on behalf of Prince Sultan, second deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation.
The five-day event “Remote Sensing as a Means to Improve the Quality of Life” is being organized by King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in collaboration with the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) at the King Faisal Conference Hall, according to Mohammad Al-Qahtani, spokesman for KACST.
An exhibition will be held in tandem with the conference in which 20 foreign and Saudi government and private sector organizations will feature the latest technology on space communications and remote sensing. The conference will feature a number keynote speakers in addition to panel discussions with experts and public sessions for participants with scientific papers.
The conference will focus on seven main areas of remote sensing: The role of observation satellites as an earth monitoring system; the new functions of earth monitoring; satellite network and its systems; developments in satellite navigation and orbit control; the configuration of orbits and remote diagnosis of systems and their troubleshooting.
