Even though Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis is completing its 4th anniversary, I felt obligated toward reviewing the game. In Operation Flashpoint events take place in the 80s, an era where tension between two mighty powers: The United States and the Soviet Union had reached the climax. The Player assumes the role of a US NATO private on a training mission who, with the rest of his squad, is suddenly dragged into a war when a mysterious force of attackers moves in with the aim to conquer the islands of Everson. Faced with a threat to United States’ interest, the army is forced to neutralize the attackers and reveal the mystery behind the aggression. In this review, we’ll explore graphics, sounds, multiplayer and gameplay.

Graphics:

Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis graphics, based on current standards, averages moderate to high moderate. The environments are impressive. The areas are gigantic with realistic panorama view and believable landscapes. In addition, the weapons and vehicles are highly detailed. In contrast, the animation can be considered poor, but bear in mind the game was released in 2001.

Score: 7.5/10

Sound:

With the support of EAX and 3D direction sound, Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis sound is near perfect. The ambient sounds, sound of vehicles and the authentic different languages are all well executed. On the other hand, the music score should have been more efficiently managed.

Score: 9/10

Multiplayer:

The game’s multiplayer aspect is to near perfection thanks to the abundant MP mission and mission editor. The only problem is the requirement of at least 15 players to enjoy an action-packed game, but keep in mind computer bots can be introduced into the MP game.

Score: 8.5/10

Gameplay:

Truly the best feature of the game. In brief, Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis single-player includes a lengthy campaign and solo missions. The game’s realism is unbelievable with the ability to drive, capture or fly any vehicle or plane. On top, the game’s plot is rock-solid and includes multiple ending.

Score: 9.5/10

To conclude, Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis is one of the best realistic first person shooter games and deserves every single award. Although recent realistic games can outperform the game, it still possesses the essential cocktail of features required for a supreme adrenal-pumping game. The game is a must for any strategic and tactical FPS genre fan. Overall: 8.6/10
