JEDDAH, 11 May 2005 — The massive cricket complex being developed by Jeddah Cricket League in North Obhur here had two unwanted visitors yesterday when they sought access in a red Chevrolet car styling themselves as Arab News staff.
It happened when some JCL executive members were overseeing preparations for a friendly match between an Airlines team and a Travel Agents team to be played at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
“We’re here to photograph the complex for Arab News and our visit has been cleared by Shahid Amin (JCL president),” one of them told the JCL executives.
When one of the JCL executives tried to establish contact with Shahid Amin, the two sped away in their car.
“That was the work of some miscreants,” Shahid Amin told Arab News, relating the incident.
He said the JCL executives were constantly supervising the development of the complex. “Thirty percent work on the complex has so far been done and matches are being played over the weekends,” Shahid Amin said, adding that the plan when accomplished will provide for 20 grounds in the complex, thus becoming perhaps the biggest of its kind in the world.
