SEATTLE, 20 May 2005 — Miguel Olivo’s eighth inning RBI single earned the Seattle Mariners a 7-6 victory and snapped the New York Yankees season-high 10 game win streak in American League play on Wednesday.
Leading 6-2 going into the fifth inning, the Yankees had appeared headed towards their first 11 game winning run in almost 20 years.
But the Mariners rallied with a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings and another in the eighth when Olivo lined a two-out single into center scoring Jeremy Reed with the go ahead run. The Yankees threatened in the ninth loading the bases but Ron Villone struck out Jason Giambi to nail down the win and his first save of the season.
In Oakland, Eric Chavez pounded a three-run homer and Eric Byrnes went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI as the Athletics routed the Boston Red Sox 13-6. Mark Ellis, Scott Hatteberg and Jason Kendall each contributed three hits to the Oakland attack.
In Cleveland, Bartolo Colon delivered eight solid innings and Bengie Molina scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly as the Los Angeles Angels rallied for a pair of ninth inning runs to slip past the Indians 2-1.
In Chicago, Mark Buehrle tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings then combined with two relievers for a 7-0 shutout of the Texas Rangers.
In Kansas City, Melvin Mora belted two home runs and David Newhan smacked a two-run shot powering the Baltimore Orioles to a 7-4 win over the Royals.
In Minneapolis, Michael Cuddyer and Jacque Jones both homered lifting the Twins to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Cuddyer was 3-for-3, the big hit a fourth inning blast to deep right that provided the winning run.
In Detroit, Dmitri Young homered and Omar Infante drove in two runs helping the Tigers to a 6-4 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

In New York, Mike Cameron, David Wright and Chris Woodard all cracked homeruns and Mike Piazza went 4-for-4 at the plate to power the New York Mets to a 10-6 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in National League play on Wednesday.Jose Reyes contributed a pair of triples to the New York hit parade at Shea Stadium that gives the Mets a three-game sweep of the Reds ahead of their inter-league showdown with cross-town rival Yankees this weekend.
In Pittsburgh, Joe Macias drove in the game-winning run with a ninth inning sacrifice fly as the Chicago Cubs staged a late rally to claim a 3-2 win over the Pirates.
In Los Angeles, Carlos Delgado, Miguel Cabrera and Damion Easley all belted homers in a five-run six inning, bringing the Florida Marlins to an 8-3 win over the Dodgers.
In San Diego, Khalil Greene belted a pair of three-run homers, powering the surging Padres to their seventh straight win with an 8-4 decision over the Atlanta Braves.
In Denver, Deivi Cruz smacked a tie-breaking RBI triple in the ninth inning lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
In Washington, Jeffrey Hammond singled home the winning run in the ninth inning while Esteban Loaiza and Gary Majewski combined for a six-hit shutout as the Washington Nationals blanked the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0.
In Philadelphia, Yadier Molina belted a three-run homer and Albert Pujols had a two-run shot as the St. Louis Cardinals dumped the Phillies 8-4.
In Houston, Troy Glaus hit a two-run homer and Russ Ortiz pitched 5 1/3 gritty innings to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-6 victory over the Houston Astros. Alex Cintron had two hits and pair of RBIs and Luis Gonzalez chipped in with a pair of hits and two runs scored as the D-Backs won for the sixth time in eight games.
