Thousands Flock to See IISD ‘Marvels’

DAMMAM, 1 June 2005 — Over 12,000 people, including students, parents and community members, visited Professor Rasheeduzzafar Hall at IIS Dammam here to look at the exhibits on display at the recently-concluded two-day Science Fest — “Marvels” 2005.

Three hundred scientific projects by over 1,000 boys were on view at the exhibition. The Physics project “Melting Man” by Vipin Paul, Nitin Venugopal, Nikky Babu and Renin Alex Wilson proved a big hit with the spectators.

“An Eye Opener”, portraying the relation between Islam & Science set up by the Islamic Studies Department, also attracted a good number of spectators.

Aby Koshy, Basil Paulose, and Kevin John won the first prize in Seniors Physics Group for their project “Magler Train & Faraday Experiment”; Anas Khan and Mujteba won first prize for Chemistry displays in the senior level for their project “Under Water Fire”.

Senior Biology students Noble Mathew, Anthony Jose and Albert Louis placed first with their project “Principles of Haemodialysis”.

Professor Sadiq Mohammed Sait, Director of Information Technology Center at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, inaugurated the exhibition.

Dr. Syed M. Ali, chairman of the school managing committee, Professor Mannan, KFUPM, Dhahran, Group Captain M. Anwar, director & principal, also attended the opening.

Anwar, the patron of the science fest organizing committee, expressed his satisfaction and appreciation over the quality of displays and extensive participation by the students.

A steering committee with Dr. Anvar Batcha, vice principal as the chief organizer, Dr. Shanu C. Thomas, Dr. Irfan Waheed and Nazeer Maniyamkulam as general coordinators along with the senior boys section science department organized the exhibition.
