TAIPEI, 2 June 2005 — The Taipei Computex 2005 computer trade fair opened at the Taipei World Trade Center on Tuesday, with 1,288 local and foreign companies taking part.
Around 120,000 people form Taiwan and around the world are expected to visit the fair, which is in its 25th year, according to Taipei Computer Association Chairman Huang Chung-jen. The fair is centered this time on how electronic technologies are applied to build a digital home. The emergence of car electronics is also featured this year. Taiwanese leading IT enterprises, including Acer Group, Hon Hai Precision Industry, ASUSTek Computer, and First International computer, as well as international giants such as Intel, AMD, Toshiba and Texas Instruments set up booths to introduce their state-of-the-art products.
Computex, considered to be one of three leading computer-oriented fairs in the world, is expected to attract 30,000 buyers from around the world, according to its organizers. “As the government understands the need for quality venues to showcase Taiwan’s products, an ‘exhibition city’ next to the Taoyuan High-Speed Rail Station could serve as the main site for future Computex fairs,” Premier Frank Hsieh said.
