Hall Blast Gives Brewers Edge Over Cubs

TORONTO, 25 June 2005 — Bill Hall belted a two-run homer with two-out in the eighth inning to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-7 win over the Chicago Cubs in National League play at Miller Park on Thursday.

Carlos Lee also had a two-run blast and Chad Moeller added a solo shot to help the Brewers earn a split in the four game series.

Ricky Bottalico (1-1) took credit for the win tossing 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, while Derrick Turnbow came on to get the final three outs and notch his 12th save.

Mike Remlinger (0-2), who served up the two-run homer to Hall, took the loss.

Derrek Lee slammed a pair of homers with three RBIs and three runs scored for the Cubs.

The blasts moved Lee onto 22 for the season, his three hits boosting his batting average to a major league best .395.

In Philadelphia, Kazuhisa Ishii delivered 6 2?3 strong innings and Doug Mientkiewicz homered and drove in two runs as the New York Mets held on to edge the Phillies 4-3.

Ishii (2-6) allowed three runs on six hits, striking out two and walking two to notch just his second win of the season.

Braden Looper came on in ninth to get the final three outs and his 15th save of the season.

Jose Reyes had three hits and stole three bases for the Mets.

Jim Thome and Todd Pratt had solo home runs for the Phillies, who have lost six of their last nine.

In San Diego, Jeff Kent hit a sacrifice fly to score Cesar Izturis with the go ahead run in the top of the 10th inning, lifting the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the Padres.

Duaner Sanchez (2-3) worked a scoreless ninth to get the win while Yhency Brazoban snuffed out a Padres threat in the bottom of the 10th, getting the final three outs nail down the victory and his 13th save of the season.

Trevor Hoffman (0-4) took the loss giving up one run on one hit in one inning of relief.

Ryan Kelso had a solo home run for the Padres.

In Atlanta, Miguel Cabrera belted a pair of homers and drove in a career-high six runs and Dontrelle Willis pitched a five-hit shutout as the Florida Marlins dumped the Braves 8-0.

Willis (12-2) was dominant, striking out seven with one walk to become the National League’s first 12 game winner.

After being shutout in the first two games of the series, the Marlins took a 1-0 first inning lead on a solo homer from Cabrera and never trailed.

Cabrera added a two-run blast in the sixth to push the Marlins in front 3-0 then singled to center in the seventh scoring two more runs.

The leftfielder completed his career night with an RBI single in the ninth to close out the scoring.
