JEDDAH, 27 June 2005 — Princess Adelah bint Abdullah, president of the National Home Health Care Foundation for the Western Region, visited Al-Thagr Hospital and the National Tuberculosis Control Program in Jeddah, on Saturday.
Accompanying her were Foundation Executive Director Nadia Al-Zuhair, Health Director Rawya Al-Nanay and Rima Kabbani, an NHHCF active member.
Princess Adelah and the visitors were greeted at Al-Thagr Hospital by Dr. Abdullatif Banoon, the hospital head and other hospital administrators and medical staff. She toured the facility and inspected the newly renovated laboratory and blood storage facilities funded by NHHCF.
As she toured the facility, the princess discussed with hospital administrators future renovation and expansion plans and viewed the work currently being done on the premises.
At the National Tuberculosis Control Program in Jeddah, Princess Adelah met Program Director Dr. Naila Abuljadayel and was shown the recently built awning that shields the hospital’s entrances from the sun, and the water coolers for patients awaiting their free consultations. The program’s laboratory also received new equipment including specialized refrigerators for keeping samples. Home health care support items for 50 patients were also donated.
“We are fortunate to be able to provide such services to those who need them. This is due to the support we receive from benevolent members of society. We are grateful for the assistance of all those who care to help others, not only through material support but humanitarian deeds. Involving the community and allowing them the opportunity to see first-hand the programs and care the foundation provides is one of our main goals. That includes helping the patients and bearing in mind the importance of offering the health and social support up to the standard we set for ourselves,” Princess Adelah told Arab News.
The NHHCF was established in June 1997 by Princess Hussa Al-Shaalan, wife of Crown Prince Abdullah. Since then, the foundation established branches throughout the Kingdom to provide necessary home health care for patients unable to pay for it.
The foundation is a nonprofit organization providing in-home care for hospital patients of all ages. It makes going home possible for patients who require continuous medical attention. The foundation provides whatever is needed to allow the patient to receive most of his or her medical care at home.
“The foundation also helps in providing transportation, medication delivery, workers, home nursing staff, refrigerators, air conditioners — whatever is needed to allow those who can benefit from receiving in-house medical care to go home where they can see their children growing up,” Al-Zuhair told Arab News.
