JEDDAH, 13 July 2005 — The Saudi Journalists Association (SJA) has strongly condemned the terrorist bombings in London last Thursday and described them as an act of cowardice aimed at killing innocent people and tarnishing the image of Islam.

“Islam, which promotes tolerance and rejects violence and extremism, has nothing to do with such terrorist acts,” a statement issued by the organization said and called for exposing the designs of the bombers.

The SJA said it believed that such terrorist attacks would only create more problems for Muslims in Britain and other parts of the world. It also urged Islamic scholars to shoulder their responsibility in enlightening the public on the dangers posed by terrorists and extremists who harm relations between religions and peoples.
