JEDDAH, 4 August 2005 — The Saudi people all agree that King Abdullah is a man worthy of recognition, admiration, and respect.

For the last ten years, King Abdullah has assumed more responsibility and has taken on a greater role in the Saudi government. During his time as crown prince, King Abdullah proved to be a competent and wise leader.

In interviews with Arab News, several Saudis said that they are confident that King Abdullah will have a positive impact on the Kingdom.

“King Abdullah has a great deal of experience as he has been serving the Kingdom for many years. The responsibilities will not be new for him and that ensures a smooth transition,” Dr. Oad Al-Raheeli said.

“I have a large amount of respect for King Abdullah,” said Hassan Saad, a Saudi businessman. “I also have a high regard for his fairness as a leader.”

King Abdullah is admired by the public for being a leader who has dedicated his efforts to making a positive change in the political system.

“King Abdullah has become a figure which leaders around the world recognize,” said Dr. Bakur Nouri, an accounting professor at King Abdul Aziz University. “He is a leader who stands for peace and cooperation between nations.”

“I think the king is down-to-earth, modest, and is truly interested in the people’s welfare,” said Jamila Mohammed a Saudi housewife.

Dr. Basma Omair, among many others, respects the king’s commitment to the people. This is shown in “his strategies with dealing with poverty” noted Dr. Omair, and “his leadership qualities which give priority to his people and country’s interest.”

Many Saudis are also very hopeful for future improvements.

“The middle class is growing and this can have future repercussions. We are a rich country but the standard of living is decreasing. I am sure King Abdullah is aware of these issues and has a plan of action,” said Hana’a Majdali.
