JEDDAH, 11 August 2005 — The first of a two-Friday audition for a children’s choir will begin tomorrow, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at the La Parilla Restaurant in Jeddah.
Children between 8-13 years old, may come with pre-recorded accompaniment on audition day, organizers said.
The second audition day will be on Aug. 19.
Forty-five will be selected to form a children’s choir that will be called “Serenata.” The choir will be directed by Sylvia de los Santos, who is known in Jeddah as a piano and music teacher.
De los Santos is best remembered as the director of the Philippine Centennial Choir organized in Jeddah during the 1998 Philippine Independence Day celebrations.
De los Santos said the primary purpose of the children’s choir being formed is to promote Philippine music.
“We hope to produce unique and talented young musicians who can bring Philippine music to the attention of the world,” she said in a phone interview. She noted that musicians are often seen as ambassadors of their country, ethnic group or organizations that they belong to.
Because the audition is on appointment basis only, interested parties may contact Louis Bautista at telephone number 263-3636, extension 3321, or through mobile phone number 05641-03423.
