RIYADH, 13 August 2005 — A special committee formed by the Ministry of Rural and Municipal Affairs and the Fire Department will study the problem of gas (petrol) stations that are violating fire safety standards.
Some of the stations are located in residential neighborhoods.
Al-Riyadh newspaper reported that these gas stations received permits to operate before the new rules and regulations governing safety standards at gas stations and car wash shops were issued.
No new gas stations will be approved until safety standards are met.
All workers in gas stations will be trained to handle emergencies — spillages and fire — and wear special uniforms, gloves and eye glasses for protection.
