JEDDAH, 14 August 2005 — The Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Cup soccer tournament starts today with four matches spread out in the Kingdom.
In Riyadh, Al-Hilal, the defending champions, face Al-Ansar of Madinah. In Makkah, Al-Wehda take on Ittifaq, in Dammam Al-Qadisiya play Al-Nasr and in Abha Ittihad test the mettle of newly-promoted Abha side.
On Monday, Taie of Hail will host Ahli of Jeddah and Al-Shabab travel to Al-Raas for the game against Al-Hazm.
Twelve teams are entered in the competition. The first group includes Hilal, Nasr, Qadisiya and Ansar. Shabab, Ahli, Taie and Al-Hazm make up the second group, while Ittihad, Wehda, Al-Ittifaq and Abha are bracketed in third gorup
The top team of each group will qualify straight into the semifinals where a fourth team will be the best-placed among the second-ranked teams.
