RIYADH, 1 September 2005 — Korean M.S. Kim and Dave Michaud won best gross and best net honors respectively in the August monthly medal tournament at the Dirab course here.
Kim shot a solid 68, four under on the par-72 layout carved out of the Tawfiq valley some 60 kilometers from the City Center.
Michaud, a consistent winner like Kim at Dirab, signed for a sparkling 8-under 64.
Jeff Fields actually matched Michaud’s net score, but had to settle for Second Division (11-19 handicap) title following a countback between them.
Taj Rahmen emerged First Division (0-10) champion with a net 69. First runner-up was Thai businessman Vinij S. at 71 and second runner-up Canadian Don McLean at 73.
Rahmen, with a 10 handicap, put together a gross total of 79, while seven-handicapper Vinij and McLean, who played off a 5-handicap, matched 78s.
Patrick Kennedy placed second to 16-handicapper Fields with a 68, two strokes ahead of Filipino Philip Cortejos, who returned a net 70 on 87 gross and 17 handicap.
Winning the Third Division (20-28) crown was Tariq Sardar, who banged out a 68 (91-23). In second place and two strokes back at 70 was 24-handicapper Gage Woodward, while another Filipino, Jake Infante, claimed third position at 71 (91-20).
Ganet Berta, Lily Bullard and Louis Barker were the trophy winners in the Ladies Division with scores of 70, 73 and 75 in that order.
Sebastien Kriticos topped the Junior Division, a new competition category that was introduced as part of Dirab junior golf development program put in place by Dirab Golf and Recreation Center Golf Division Manager Bouchaib El-Jadiani.
Kriticos finished with a remarkable net score of 63, two strokes in front of runner-up Peter Matthews at 65. Both played off 28 handicap.
The special awards for closest to pin went to Michaud, straight drive to Askari Naqvi (men’s) and Liz Kennedy (ladies).
Hole-in-One Feat
Meantime, the Palms Golf and Country Club presented a certificate of hole-in-one achievement to Garry Kennedy recently.
Kennedy shot his ace on the fifth hole of the Intercon course.
Intercontinental Riyadh Hotel Assistant Manager Erik Huyer presented the certificate to Kennedy, senior trade commissioner, Austrade. Also present during the presentation ceremony were PGCC golf club coordinator Baby Joseph, golf professional Anwar Naz and David Genge.
