HYDERABAD, 21 September 2005 — Six persons were killed as heavy rains lashed north coastal Andhra and Telangana for the second consecutive day yesterday, under the impact of a cyclonic storm that crossed the state coast near Kalingapatnam yesterday. Train services and road traffic were also affected at several places in the state. The storm and rains affected normal life and left a trail of large scale destruction in three north coastal districts as well as East and West Godavari and Khammam districts. Scores of villagers were marooned and crops, houses, irrigation tanks, roads and other infrastructure were severely damaged in the affected districts. The state government has geared up the district authorities to organize relief and rescue operations.
