JEDDAH, 26 September 2005 — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah held talks here yesterday with Sudanese President Omar Bashir on major regional issues and ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation.
President Bashir thanked King Abdullah, the Saudi government and people for their continued support to Sudan. “This support has helped our country overcome difficulties that preceded the peace accord and formation of the national unity government,” he said.
“King Abdullah and Bashir reviewed developments at Arab, Islamic and international levels including the Palestinian issue and the situation in Iraq,” the Saudi Press Agency said, adding that the two sides also discussed ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Crown Prince Sultan, second deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, Prince Abdul Rahman, deputy minister of defense and aviation, Interior Minister Prince Naif and Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed.
On the Sudanese side included Presidential Minister Maj. Gen. Bakri Hassan Saleh, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ali Ahmed Kurti and Muhammad Amin Al-Kareb, Sudan’s ambassador in Riyadh.
King Abdullah hosted a luncheon in honor of Bashir and his delegation. The luncheon was attended by top officials including Prince Sultan, Prince Abdul Rahman, Prince Naif and other senior princes.
