PUNE, 18 October 2005 — Asking politicians not to drag cops into their political disputes, State Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister R.R. Patil said that Maharashtra would not become another Bihar.

Speaking to journalists last evening after inaugurating the centenary celebrations of the Sstate’s Criminal Investigation Department at its headquarters here, Patil said: “The Congress-National Congress Party-led Democratic Front state government will not allow Maharashtra to become another Bihar and the state will go to any extent to maintain law and order.”

He referred to the ongoing clashes between Shiv Sena workers and supporters of State Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, and asked both groups not to drag the police into political disputes adding that those who observe the law will be protected, but if politicians speak in terms of weapons, then sooner or later, Maharashtra will turn into Bihar.
