Young people between the ages of 10 and 18 have joined together to create the music CD, “Mazoof.” The youngsters are members of the Jordan Intel Computer Clubhouse (JICC). JICC is run by the Princess Basma Youth Resource Center in the Hashemi Shamali quarter of Amman.
Members of JICC are encouraged to use IT tools creatively. They are mentored rather than taught. The Clubhouse philosophy is that youth learn best through creativity, problem solving and self-directed exploration.
Several JCCI members collaborated on “Mazoof.” The CD features the music of Abed Al-Fatach Abo Maroof, Mohammed Al-Jarajrah, Amer Rasheed and Heba Tafish.
“We made the CD using ACID Pro 4.0 from Sony,” said 16-year-old Abed Al-Fatach Abo Maroof. “ACID Pro 4.0 software is a loop-based music creation tool. ACID Pro software allowed us to create our own songs and remix those tracks.”
Abo Maroof explained that he enjoys both music and computers and he wanted to find a way to bring them together. The Mazoof CD made that possible. It took the young musicians about one month to develop the music and organize the CD. They are now marketing their work.
The CD is selling for three Jordanian dinars, about SR16. For more information on Mazoof or to buy the CD, contact [email protected].
