ISLAMABAD, 1 January 2006 — Pakistan and India will give a final touch to the commissioning of Khokhrapar-Monabao railway route when a 10-member Pakistani delegation visits New Delhi on Jan. 10.
Nasir Zaid, a senior Pakistani official, will lead the high-level delegation.
Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said here yesterday, “Pakistan has completed double gauge railway track on Khokhrapar route spending over one billion rupees. We are ready to operate train on this route to India. But there are few formalities which will be met during the forthcoming talks between India and Pakistan.” The Jan. 10 talks will be mainly between the experts on this subject, she added.
Pakistan and India agreed to open railway traffic on this sector as part of ongoing peace process between the two neighboring nations.
Railway Ministry and Central Board of Revenue has established customs points to evaluate the imports from India and sufficient trained staff will be deployed to determine custom duties on imports and exports to India.
Likewise the post of immigration has been established by the Interior Ministry for visas and other documentation formalities.
