KARACHI, 21 August 2006 — Pakistan International Airlines too in the light of terrorist threats has prohibited all liquids and chemicals in hand bags on international flights due to security measures and searches on both domestic and international flights at all airports of hand bags, small brief cases and laptops have now been allowed .
All electronics and cosmetics were initially banned but laptops are now allowed on international flights except those heading for the US whereas 45 cm, 35 cm and 16 cm thick brief cases have also been allowed on domestic and international flights, sources said.
Pakistan International Airlines Public Relations General Manager Hassan Jaffery said yesterday, “The present fear of terror on international flights may persist,” adding that security measures for all flights, domestic and international, are almost the same.
“The security situation is tightened and may remain so till the ongoing international problems of flight terrorism improves,” Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah said. He said that the procedure has been made more rigid and that it will be monitored closely while all liquids and chemicals would remain banned.
