Police Arrest Thieves With SR2.5m Jewelry

JEDDAH, 3 February 2006 — Jeddah Police succeeded in recovering rare jewelry pieces worth more than SR2.5 million in less than 15 hours after the stash was reported stolen, Al-Madinah newspaper reported.

Three Saudis and an African national were arrested for the crime.

One of the thieves disguised as an important personality visited a shop and asked to see some rare jewelry pieces. Three weeks later he contacted the shop owner and asked to see the jewelry in his father’s palace on the day of the theft.

He later told the shop owner that the venue of the meeting had to be changed to a hotel because his father was not available at his palace.

The meeting took place at the hotel and the jewelry owner showed the disguised thief the pieces of jewelry.

He then asked the shop owner if he could show the pieces to his mother at her palace. The man then took the jewelry and escaped. Police were notified and began an intensive search. In less than 15 hours, police succeeded in arresting the thieves in Makkah with the jewelry.
