RIYADH, 16 February 2006 — In a renewed move to promote friendship and understanding between Saudi Arabia and Japan, a team of nine young Saudis left for Tokyo yesterday. They will visit Hiroshima and Hakone and meet with officials, academics and Japanese youths.

“The aim of this joint exercise is to promote relations between these two great nations,” said Japanese Embassy spokesman Abdullah Manham.

He said the Saudi team would visit major landmarks, cultural facilities, automobile industries and high-tech factories.

“The Japanese Embassy is implementing this program in coordination with the Saudi government, represented by the General Presidency of Youth Welfare,” said Manham.

A Japanese delegation will visit Saudi Arabia in March this year. The visits follow celebrations last year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment diplomatic ties between the Kingdom and Japan.
