JEDDAH, 21 February 2006 — Thursday night action in the Saudi Basketball League at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium featured Al-Ittihad defeating Khalij 86-63, and Al-Ahli beating Al-Qadisiya 83-65.
The young players for Khalij had no skills to match Ittihad’s power game.
In the first game on Friday, Ahli destroyed Khalij 101- 41. It was good practice for Ahli’s bench players who played most of the second half. Ahli improved their record to 8 wins and 3 losses.
In the second game, Qadisiya came to play but came up short.
After trailing Ittihad by 16 points at 26-10 in the first quarter coach Ali had Qadisiya playing hard and kept the game close for the next three periods. Halftime score was 51 to 46 Ittihad. Shamgod, Ittihad’s star point guard was on fire scoring 24 points with 11 assists.
Six of the passes were to Steve Howard deep in the paint helping him score his game-high 27 points. The final score was 95 to 83 Ittihad. Undefeated with 11 wins Ittihad remain in first place.
Ansar holding down second place defeated Hilal and Nasr at the weekend sporting a 10 wins 1 lost record. Ohod followed beating Nasr and Hilal keeping third place with a 9 and 2 record. Wehda lock down fifth place with the win, their fourth in 10 games.
This week Ohod meet Ansar for the battle of second place and Ittihad and Ahli host Hilal and Nasr.
