JEDDAH, 25 February 2006 — A visiting medical team will perform 25 complicated operations on children on the sidelines of an international symposium on pediatric surgery that starts at King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital here today.
“The symposium is the first scientific event in pediatric surgery in the Middle East in which internationally known professors will participate,” said Maj. Gen. S.A. Ogayil, program director.
During the five-day event, the team will carry out operations on children from various regions in the Kingdom using the latest techniques, Dr. Enaam Raboei, head of pediatric surgery at KFAFH, said.
The program will include live satellite transmission of a lecture about robotic surgery on children from Strasbourg in France by professor Luc Soleer. Workshops will be held on the use of simulators in laparoscopic surgery and the treatment of child abuse cases.
Topics of the seminars will include various subspecialties in pediatric surgery. There will be lectures for the public on the concept of pediatric surgery and services available in the Kingdom and abroad.
