JEDDAH, 27 February 2006 — Al-Ahli improved their record to 10 -3 with their 89-74 win over Fatha in the Saudi Basketball League at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium here on Friday.
The combination of Bobby Madison and Damon Forney tallied 47 of Ahli’s points. Madison scored 24 and Forney 23. Fatha had the lead at the end of the first period 19 -17. Ahli managed to go ahead by halftime 43 -40.
The game stayed close until the end of the third quarter when Madison and Forney took charge. Jules Aw made 28 points to topscore for Fatha who went down to their ninth defeat in 12 games.
Al-Ittihad downed Wehda 103-80 in a tough match. What Wehda lacked in height they made up with tough play and hard defense. After the first quarter Ittihad led by five points 24 -19. They increased their lead to nine by halftime 48-39. In the second half, Ittihad’s big guns took over. Ali Maghrabi finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Shamgod penetrated the paint again and again scoring 17 in the half and finishing with 25 points and 9 assists. Steven Howard poured in 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. The game’s high scorer was Massaer with 31 points for Wehda.
Ittihad stayed undefeated in 13 games and in first place. Ohod are in second with Ansar in third, both have 10-2 records. Ahli hold down fourth. Qadisiya beat Nasr 92- 64 for a 5- record in fifth place.
Hilal beat Khalij 85-57 matching Qadisiya’s 5-8 record but taking sixth place because of a fewer overall point total. Wehda are in seventh at 4-8 followed by Fatha 3-9, Nasr 2-11 and Khalij 1-12.
