Using Himself as Witness, Judge Punishes Self

MAKKAH, 4 March 2006 — Kafka would be proud. A judge, using himself as a witness, decided to sentence himself to sacrificing a sheep to give to the poor for the crime of accidentally killing a pigeon with his car, Asharq Al-Awsat reported. It is illegal to kill animals within the limits of the holy city of Makkah. The judge was driving when a pigeon flying low hit his car. The judge issued a guilty plea, and then sentenced himself for the death of the pigeon.
