RIYADH, 9 March 2006 — Ambassador Bahnarim A. Guinomla has said the Philippine Embassy may no longer be able to host fund-raising activities by Filipino organizations in the Kingdom.
Guinomla said the embassy’s request for approval of fund-raising activities on behalf of Filipino community groups in Riyadh and the Eastern Region have all been denied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a letter to community groups, Guinomla quoted the ministry’s “Note No. 93/10372 dated Feb. 22 as saying that “the diplomatic practices as well as the Kingdom’s rules and regulations do not allow the holding of such events by the Diplomatic Missions and Consulates including fundraising activities in favor of any party.”
While assuring the community of the embassy’s support and cooperation in other activities, Guinomla sought restraint in the case of fund-raisers.
