Earphones as Fashionable as Your Player

VIBE are a noise-isolating earphones from V-MODA (shop.v-moda.com). Premium metal composition and superior technology enable these earphone to provide a precise balance of rich bass, warm mids and unprecedented clarity. BLISS (Bass Level Isolating Soft Silicon) technology further reduces outside noise for a precise and rich bass response (frequency 12Hz to 22Hz).

Weighing in at only 12 grams, VIBE can be used for both outdoor activities and low-key relaxation. With three sizes of soft silicon fittings in both clear and black colors, the modaphones fit securely and comfortably, unlike deep in-ear canal earphones, and won’t jar loose during exercise. The included Modawrap cable manager adjusts the length of the sport-optimized lightweight cables, and a leather pouch is provided for storage. At a price of $101, VIBE is designed to coordinate with portable music players, as well as modern apparel and fashion accessories.

Site Supports Care of Epileptic Women

The Epilepsy Therapy Development Project (ETDP) has launched a new women’s health site (http://professionals.epilepsy.com/page/women_guide.html) for physicians and health care providers, supporting optimal care for women of all ages with epilepsy. The new site, developed by leading epilepsy health practitioners and investigators, provides age- and situation-specific health information and physician tools relevant not only to epileptologists and neurologists, but also to general practitioners, endocrinologists, ob-gyn professionals and others treating women with epilepsy.

Many of the health situations facing women with epilepsy are unique. In addition to the challenge of staying current with new developments in the field of epilepsy, practitioners need to consider numerous factors that relate to their female patients. With the aim of bringing the most current information on all relevant aspects of women’s health to one site as a one-stop epilepsy education resource, this new section provides a broad spectrum of peer-reviewed women’s health topics and a multifaceted discussion guide.

Infection-Resistant Computer Keyboards

In a growing trend, University College London Hospitals (UCLH) will become the first hospital in the UK to install infection-resistant computer keyboards in their wards and other clinical areas to combat the problem of hospital acquired infections. UCLH will be using Medigenic keyboards (www.advanced-input.com) that not only can be cleaned easily, but alert hospital staff when they need cleaning. Research by UCLH estimated that Medigenic keyboards could cut the spread of certain infections by 10 percent.

The flat design of the Medigenic keyboards allows for easy cleaning but the required tactile response is still maintained. A timing device in the keyboard warns nursing staff when the keyboards need cleaning. Hidden sensors ensure that the surfaces are cleaned properly.
