Court Summons JI, PML-Q Chiefs

ISLAMABAD, 19 March 2006 — Peshawar High Court has summoned Jamaat-e-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad and president of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain for purportedly violating the electoral laws during Senate elections.

The court also issued notices to newly-elected senators Amaar Ahmad Khan PML (Q) for his reported indulgence in massive horse trading.

Court consisting of Justice Ejazul Hassan and Justice Qaim Jan also summoned the chief election commissioner in two writ petitions questioning the nominations for the general seats of the Senate from the North Western Frontier Province where the ruling PML (Q) holds a thin margin despite this it got its two senators Amaar Ahmad Khan and Salim Saifullah Khan elected.

One of the petitioners Shahid Orakzai alleged in his petition that loyalties of the legislators of the Frontier Assembly were bought by newly elected senators.

A civil miscellanea petition too was submitted wherein the petitioner accused ruling MMA for not maintaining discipline in the party during election for Senate which is considered violative of electoral laws.

Earlier Deputy Speaker Shahid Ikramullah from Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam a constituent of the Muttaheda Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) was also accused of selling his vote.

MMA leadership has decided to move a no-trust motion against the deputy speaker.

Cabinet Reshuffle

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said here Friday that he would reshuffle his Cabinet within two weeks.

He was talking to reporters here.

The prime minister said after election for half of Senate he would make changes in his Cabinet. Some new faces will replace old ones and portfolios of some ministers will be changed.
