RIYADH, 22 March 2006 — Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, president of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare, handed down yesterday a decision to penalize Jabaleen by suspending its directors from the sports profession for four years.
The decision came after an ugly confrontation on Thursday during a Saudi League match between Jabaleen and Raid where a referee was severely beaten not only by Jabaleen players but also by team officials.
An oversight committee was installed to replace the team’s suspended board of directors to oversee the team for the remaining matches of the season.
Nine players and the three officials of the team were also suspended. Raid won the match 3-0.
