JEDDAH, 24 November 2006 — Two Arab nationals were arrested yesterday in south Jeddah while trying to break into an electronics shop.

According to police, the two suspects are part of a gang responsible for a number of burglaries in commercial establishments in Jeddah. Police did not give the names or nationalities of the suspects, saying investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely.

Police reportedly found fingerprints of the men arrested that matched those found in past warehouse robberies. The gang specializes in targeting electronic stores for TV sets, DVD players, stereos, VCRs and other consumer electronics. Police also recovered a large amount of stolen goods.

A police official who did not want to be identified said that the police department received a number of complaints about warehouses and stores in the areas robbed in a similar fashion.

In response to the complaints, police started staking out potential sites. A few days later two members of the gang took the bait and are currently behind bars awaiting trial.
