JEDDAH, 8 September 2006 — In connection with the 50th anniversary of the southern Indian state of Kerala on Nov 1, World Malayali Council (WMC) has drawn up plans to recognize Malayali workers who have served the best part of their life in the public and private sectors of Saudi Arabia. MC Sebastian and George Tharakan, president and secretary respectively of the WMC’s Middle East Region chapter, made this announcement yesterday.
“The silent contribution of Indians in the developmental activities here has already received appreciation from Saudi Arabia. Indian workmen have thus written themselves into the Kingdom’s current history. Malayalis constitute the largest group in the Indian work force and are noteworthy as they have been adaptable to wherever they live and conform easily to the demands of local culture and law dispensing thereby their quality performance at large,” Tharakan told Arab News.
WMC’s provincial wings in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam will offer awards and certificates of appreciation in the three regions of the Kingdom at separate functions on Nov 3. Workers who have served continuously for a minimum of 20 years in the Kingdom can send in their applications.
Five of the longest serving Malayalis will be given cash awards (Sudeerkh Videsh award) and the subsequent 20 the certificate of honor (Deerkh Videsh Award).
Contestants should forward details including name, service period, employment history, position, passport number, contact addresses in the Kingdom and Kerala, and their major achievements, if any, to respective provincial secretaries of WMC by e-mail or fax: 02 6837486 or 6814116 to reach before Sept 30, 2006. The WMC Executive Council will select award winners in conjunction with the Consulate General of India.
E-mail addresses in the Kingdom are: Western Province — [email protected]; Central Province - [email protected]; and Eastern Province —[email protected].
