QATIF, 15 April 2006 — A man had his stay in a jail in the Eastern Province extended for over six months because some documents relating to his release had been misplaced.
Sadiq Ali Al-Jamie was put in jail 14 years ago in connection with a murder case. He was to be released early last October after a pardon by his victim’s kinsmen, according to Al-Watan newspaper.
Al-Jamie’s relatives had paid SR6 million to the victim’s dependents to secure the pardon. However a document signed by the parties was lost somewhere and nobody knew what happened to it.
Al-Jamie’s relatives had met the jail authorities in Qatif, officials in Saihat police and the Shariah court several times but to no avail. The problems came to an end only when they brought the plight of the young man to the attention of the Eastern Province Governor Prince Muhammad ibn Fahd who issued orders to complete the required formalities quickly and release the man.
Al-Jamie was jailed at the age of 17 after he was convicted of murdering Khaled Al-Mahashir, 55, in Qatif.
