Six Pakistanis Return Home From Indian Jail

KARACHI, 18 May 2006 — Six Pakistanis, including four teenage boys, returned home yesterday after being released from Indian jails where they were held between seven months to 15 years for illegal border crossing, an official said.

“Yes, we have received our six prisoners from India, but I cannot give you any other details,” said Fayyaz Haider, an army major posted at Wagah, a border town near the eastern city of Lahore.

As the prisoners crossed an iron gate at Wagah, Pakistani border guards quickly took them away for questioning. They were likely to be handed over to their families soon.

Azad Kashmir’s Sardar Rauf Kashmiri, 47, and Mohammad Ayub, 45 besides Dera Ghazi Khan’s Shaukat Ali Shakeel, 15; Faisalabad’s Mohammad Khurram Nawaz, 12; Mithan Maseeh, 13 and Imran Maseeh were released from Indian jails yesterday. Indian authorities handed them over to Pakistani officials.
