JEDDAH, 22 May 2006 — Believers go to mosques to have a spiritual experience. They want their sins to be forgiven after sincere prayers. Some of the people assembled for the Friday prayers at the second largest mosque in Sabya in the Asir region this week felt that they, at least some of them, were getting instant punishment for their sins when they were struck from behind with an iron rod. It turned out that a crazy man at the back of the hall was roughing up those standing in the last line. A Pakistani sustained severe injuries to his head. The madman’s shouts also disturbed the quiet atmosphere in the mosque while the prayer was being conducted, according to Okaz daily. The man was later captured and handed over to police.
