RIYADH, 22 May 2006 — A workshop bringing together people involved in developing group medical insurance among the Gulf Cooperation Council countries is to be held on the sidelines of the first international conference on group medical insurance here in September.

Riyadh Khalil, general supervisor of medical insurance in the Ministry of Health, said Health Minister Hamad Al-Manie has given the go-ahead to the workshop.

Khalil added that the workshop was proposed by Abdullah Al-Shareif, secretary-general of the GCC Medical Insurance Council, to discuss the latest developments in the application of medical insurance across GCC countries.

The Ministry of Health says it will organize a three-day international seminar with a fair in Riyadh starting on Sept. 19. Arrangements are being made with Tandeem Co., which organizes exhibitions and conferences.

Organizers intend to use the meeting to discuss a number of issues including the Islamic perspective of medical insurance and the establishment of a working group of experts on group medical insurance.
