RIYADH, 24 May 2006 — A large number of Thai workers and diplomats donated blood here at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital on Friday in a rare show of solidarity with Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the occasion of his 60th anniversary of accession to the throne.
“The purpose is also to convey our gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah for his care of Thai workers,” said Suvat Chirapant, charge d’ affaires, here yesterday.
Chirapant, said many community events would be organized during the monthlong celebration. The anniversary is being observed as National Day, he said.
The diplomat said, “Our king has been the longest-reigning monarch in the world.” A large number of royal family members and top officials from 27 countries will participate in a high-profile ceremony to be held in Bangkok on June 12 to mark the occasion.
