CAIRO, 1 June 2006 — Egyptian security forces yesterday arrested two men suspected of involvement in a string of deadly bombings in the Sinai Peninsula over the past two years, security sources told AFP.
Yussef Ali Mohammed Hamad and Ali Mohammed Hadi Salem, whose names appear on a wanted list issued by Egyptian police, were arrested in northern Sinai, one of the sources said. “The two were carrying weapons and hand-held explosives,” the source said, without reporting a clash.
Twenty people were killed, including several foreigners, on April 24, when three suicide bombings ripped through the popular Red Sea resort of Dahab during a peak holiday season.
