NEW DELHI, 12 June 2006 — Rahul Mahajan, on judicial remand in Tihar Jail on charges of drug abuse, will be produced before a Tis Hazari court today at 10 a.m. Last Friday, the Patiala House Court had deferred Rahul’s bail application to June 13. Rejecting the police plea to extend Rahul’s police remand for further interrogation, the Patiala Court had directed judicial remand for him till June 22. As the plea of the Delhi Police seeking transfer of Rahul’s case to a special court was accepted yesterday, he would be produced before a Tis Hazari court today.
Though speculations are gaining ground on whether the police have sufficient evidence to keep Rahul in custody, the police are confident that they can convince the court not to give bail to him. Having just returned from Bombay and Srinagar, where the police team had gone to gather clues, a senior officia said yesterday: “As of now we can only reveal that our objective of going to Bombay and Srinagar has been successful. We have made ample recoveries which we would present before the court and demand rejection of the bail application of Rahul Mahajan.”
“We will present our findings in the court and we hope Rahul Mahajan would not be given bail by the court,” the official said.
Police also claimed to have “vital clues” against Sahil Zarru, the Kashmiri man who is believed to have procured drugs for the ill-fated party last week at late Pramod Mahajan’s official residence.
“The information is enough for us to believe that both Rahul and Sahil will not get bail and we would be allowed to further question them,” the official said.
