ISLAMABAD, 14 June 2006 — Suspected militants detonated a roadside bomb yesterday in North Waziristan, wounding one soldier, and in a separate attack militants opened gunfire at a roadblock, an intelligence official said.
The soldier was hit by shrapnel from the bomb that exploded near him as he guarded a road near Machikhel.
In the other attack, militants opened fire at a roadblock manned by paramilitary troops on the outskirts of Miranshah, but no one was wounded, the official said.
Meanwhile, Khyber Agency remained tense yesterday after authorities razed houses of suspects on Monday. Troops demolished houses and buildings belonging to Lashkar-e-Islami leader Mangal Bagh who had threatened to launch protests and instigated tribesmen to defy the authorities and stop paying taxes.
