TAIF, 21 September 2006 — In a series of raids across Taif, police officers arrested 51 illegal immigrants of different nationalities and managed to free an Indonesian maid who was kidnapped six months ago.

Among the overstayers were people involved in prostitution, pimping and illegal maid racketing. The arrests came after officers from the criminal investigation department, the passport department and the regular police raided various Taif suburbs. The officers also smashed a maid racket and arrested a number of African women.

A Chadian, who was harboring two African prostitutes, was arrested and a Yemeni overstayer was caught selling impure honey from his car.

Police also seized more than 1,000 bottles of honey from the man. Police officers said that results of laboratory tests later revealed that the honey was unfit for consumption.

Police also arrested a number of suspected kidnappers of an Indonesian maid that disappeared six months ago. The men are currently being questioned and will be made to appear in court if enough evidence can be found linking them to the kidnapping.

Officers say those arrested will be sent to the passport department for deportation.
