JEDDAH, 1 October 2006 — The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has deployed 270 officials to supervise the performance of imams and khateebs.
According to a report issued by the ministry, some 203 technical teams have been deployed to check architectural aspects of mosques.
The report said there are 58,110 mosques across the Kingdom including 11,806 big mosques where Juma prayers are held.
The ministry commended the support of philanthropists in building mosques. During the past four years philanthropists constructed 2,318 mosques, the report pointed out.
