JEDDAH, 15 November 2006 — The Saudi national team with special needs added seven medals yesterday to the 9 they won on Monday at the Zaid Al-Khair Tournament held in Dubai. Amjed Mahdi claimed the gold medal in the 100 meters race group 12, while Ibrahim Al-Zain ruled the 100 meters race from group 6 for the Kingdom second gold. The national team also won golds in 4 x 100 meters relay from group 3 and 400 meters courtesy of Ahmed Al-Rabea. Ibrahim Al-Darbi and Ibrahim Al-Doroubi took the silver medals in the 400 meter race from group 4 and the 100 meters, while Asaad Sharahili took the bronze medal in the 4 kilometers marathon. A total of 1,000 athletes with special needs from 20 countries are entered in the tournament.
Jeddah to Host 8th GCC Bowling Tilt
JEDDAH, 15 November 2006 — The 8th Gulf Cooperation Council Bowling Championship for men will roll off at 7 p.m. next Friday at the Sultana Mall’s Bowling City. To run for a week the FIQ style tournament will have competitions in the singles, doubles, trio, all-events and the prestigious Masters event. The Saudi national bowling team have been preparing for this event under British coach Mario Josef and his assistants Yousif Al-Khalaf and Saeed Al-Zahrani. The players are Badr Al-Alsheikh, Hassan Al-Alsheikh, Yousif Akbar, Ahmad Al-Hidyan, Faisal Al-Juraifani and Faisal Sugati.
Saudi Cyclists in Egypt
JEDDAH, 15 November 2006 — Egypt will host the 2nd Arabian Cycling Championship for clubs set for Nov. 19 to 25. Saudi Arabia are among the 13 countries vying for honors in the competition. The Egyptian Cycling Federation predicted the event to be one of the most challenging championships where the host team are the defending champions.
