MAKKAH, 22 November 2006 — Makkah Deputy Mayor Ahmad ibn Ali Bayazeed said that the municipality has signed up a local company in order to install, operate and maintain social centers for the upcoming Haj season.
The centers serve as first aid and information facilities for the millions of pilgrims, as well as clean-up stations that will help remove rubbish from the holy sites. The contract is worth SR499,675 for the construction and upkeep of 25 centers spread all over the holy sites.
Most of the centers will be erected in Mina, where the pilgrims’ tents are pitched. The distribution of these centers in this way was to ensure the cleanness of the holy sites and the smooth running of general services. The municipality will provide these centers with workers and equipment sufficient to serve the number of expected pilgrims in each area.
