RIYADH, 22 December 2006 — The Standing at Arafat, the central part of Haj rites, will take place on Friday, Dec. 29, while this year’s Eid Al-Adha will occur the following day, according to a statement of the Supreme Judiciary Council yesterday.
The crescent of the month of Dul Hijjah was sighted Wednesday evening, the statement of the council said.
More than 2.5 million believers from the four corners of the world are expected to converge at the Arafat plain, 12 kilometers southeast of Makkah, on that day. To ensure total security and comfort of the pilgrims Saudi authorities have made massive precautionary arrangements, the Saudi Press Agency reported yesterday.
