JEDDAH, 23 December 2006 — A 53-year-old man from Makkah came to Jeddah’s International Medical Center with chronic chest pains, and after primary examinations, it was revealed that he had major cardiac blockage in all the main arteries supplying the heart.
The doctors rushed him into the operating room and, under the leadership of Dr. Mishal Ghandour, the consultant cardiac surgeon from Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF) and Massachusetts General Hospital USA, an emergency open-heart surgery was performed. The International Medical Center Cardiac Team worked avidly for three and a half hours, after which five main arteries were cleared and the patient’s life was saved.
After surgery, the patient was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where Dr. Naeem Adhami, the ICU consultant at the International Medical Center, supervised his recovery.
Eighteen hours later he was awake and able to take his first steps independently.
Surgeries such as this reflect Saudi Arabia’s advancement over the years in attracting higher medical qualifications, said a statement released by the hospital.
The International Medical Center has succeeded in achieving the first foreign joint partnership with the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF), the first of its kind in the region.
The Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) has documented this affiliation as the “Best Investment in the Health Care Sector” in 2005.
