JEDDAH, 9 January 2007 — Al-Hilal topped Group B with 7 points after beating Al-Qadisiya 2-1 yesterday in the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Cup football tournament at the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium in Riyadh.
Tavares opened the account for Hilal in the 21st minute with Rodrigo scoring the second goal in the 78th minute. Qadisiya limited the damage with a spectacular shot in the 82nd minute by Muhammad Madihi, the ball going past the left hand side of the goalie.
Despite the defeat Qadisiya are in second position ending the first leg of the tournament with 6 points. Ittifaq are third with 2 points and Khaleej last with one point.
The second leg matches of the competition will start tomorrow with Shabab facing Al-Taie in Riyadh and Al-Hazem hosting Al-Ahli in Al-Rass in a pair of Group C contests. Ahli lead the group on goal difference with 7 points equal with Shabab who are in second spot. Al-Hazem are third with 3 points and Taie last with no points.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia defeated Gambia 3-0 in a friendly match in preparation for the 18th Gulf Cup. Hamad Al-Muntasheri scored the first goal for the Kingdom in the 19th minute from a nice shot into the left hand side of the goalie. Striker Yassir Al-Qahtani scored the second and third goals for the hosts in the 31st and 50th minutes of the match. The match took place at Hilal club stadium in Riyadh.
